Take a look around and find your Caregiver's Companion today!
Memory Mates caregiver companion cards allow you to discreetly disclose your companion's condition without bringing unwanted attention to it. Subtly informing those around you may alleviate unnecessary confusion and conflict, and help your companion feel more at ease in unfamiliar situations.
Here at Memory Mates we understand the value and absolute necessity of caregivers. Sometimes they are expected to employ super-human levels of strength, patience and resilience, for which they are often unrecognized. Show the caregiver in your life your appreciation, and remind them to never forget the difference they make!
Memory Mates activity books were specifically designed to cater to those suffering from dementia and cognitive decline, all while honoring the adult user. Our unique features include:
My mom, Karen, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's dementia in August 2017. Shortly after her diagnosis, my dad and I, along with my husband and two children, made the decision to sell our respective homes and build a mutigenerational house so that we could all share the responsibility of caring for her.
The challenges we faced were unique and often exhausting. Her capacities dwindled, yet her desire to remain a productive adult remained. It was difficult, if not impossible to find engaging activities that were appropriate for her level of cognition, while still honoring her as a grown woman with dignity and integrity; the activities that were suitable for her level of cognition were all designed for small children.
And so, Memory Mates was born, designed to be a Caregiver's Companion, offering dignified, yet appropriate and engaging content for those suffering from cognitive decline, throughout all stages of the journey.
Memory Mates activity books have been reviewed and adjusted throughout every stage of development - from conception to publication - in order to bring to you the most refined, complete and appropriate product.
Physicians, licensed therapists, brain health professionals, activity directors, caregivers, and even dementia patients themselves have offered input and feedback throughout the process. Our books have been distributed to and "play tested" by residents of memory care facilities, including my mom!
We sincerely hope that our Caregiver's Companion will offer you, the caregiver, a bit of respite and peace of mind, while also engaging and entertaining your loved one.
After more than four years of caring for my mom in our extended household, it became apparent that her ongoing needs far exceeded what we were capable of providing for her. She was no longer receiving stimulation that was appropriate for her level of cognition, and her mounting physical needs and safety were no longer ensured. After many hours of reflection and consideration, we made the very difficult decision to move mom to a full-time residential memory care home. After touring multiple facilities, the choice to entrust our loved one to Avenir Memory Care was clear: The unwaveringly kind and compassionate staff, as well as the impeccably clean and comprehensive facility, made a difficult decision so much easier. We are eternally grateful to have Avenir as an extension of our home and family, and we rest assured that she's in the very best of hands!
